Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club, Inc. is pleased to announce that Helene Mukhtar’s mixed media painting “Triumphant Trumpets” was accepted into its 113th Annual Open Exhibition at the National Arts Club, 15 Gramercy Park South, New York, New York 10003.
Mukhtar works with collage and oil or acrylic paint. In this particular piece, she combines collage of her own photographs printed on paper, newspaper clippings and painted cardboard with oil paint into an explosive, energetic and colorful image.
“This painting”, says Mukhtar, “ expresses the triumph of the human spirit against all odds. I worked on this piece during the lawyers’ demonstrations against President Musharraf in Pakistan. Very often I find inspiration in current issues and world events.”
This exhibition of works in a variety of media by women artists from all over the United States was by juried admission and was not limited to members only. The exhibition is open to the public from October 1 to October 23, 2009 from 3 pm to 6 pm, Monday through Friday, 1 pm to 6 pm Saturday and Sunday. The Sculpture Gallery is open seven days a week from 1 pm to 6 pm. However, please call the National Arts Club at 212 475 3424 before visiting as the galleries do close for official functions.
The Benefit Reception is October 16th from 5:30 to 8:00 pm at the National Arts Club. A minimum $25 donation benefits the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Travel and Research Fund.
The Catharine Lorillard Wolf Art Club, one of the oldest women’s art clubs in the country, was founded in 1896 in honor of Miss Wolfe, a prominent New York philanthropist and art collector. She was the only woman among the 106 founders of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Today’s members are represented in museums, galleries, and prestigious art collections all over the world.
