Event Description

NEW YORK PHOTO FESTIVAL 2009 (May 13th - 17th 2009)

The Second Annual International Photography Festival in New York City

The inaugural New York Photo Festival, held May 14-18, 2008 surpassed popular and critical expectations, “Everyone with a serious interest in contemporary photography must head to Dumbo this weekend,” proclaimed The New York Times. “You must really, really go,” stated The Wall Street Journal.

The New York Photo Festival 2008 featured the “Future of Contemporary Photography” through the eyes of today’s leading editors, curators and publishers working with the photographic image, presented in a provocative and innovative design creation of renowned architect David Howell. The NYPH08 Festival Curators, Kathy Ryan, Martin Parr, Lesley A. Martin and Tim Barber, delivered four stunning exhibitions dealing with such thought-provoking developments in contemporary photography from the ubiquity of imagery to new typologies to sculptural tendencies in new work being developed around the world.

Designed to be an American counterpart and thematic precedent to the prestigious European photo festivals Rencontres d’Arles, PhotoEspana, and Visa Pour l’Image, the New York Photo Festival created an international atmosphere of inspiring visual installations, professional and aficionado fellowship and camaraderie, and newsworthy staged presentations, awards ceremonies, and symposia over the course of four-and-a-half days during the busiest photography month in New York City.

The New York Photo Festival is committed to pushing the boundaries of contemporary photography, and has selected William A. Ewing, Chris Boot, Jody Quon and Jon Levy, world-renowned curators who will bring their personal visions of the newest and most important trends in contemporary photography to the main pavilions of the New York Photo Festival 2009.
