How often are you the first among your friends to try something new?
All the time
What do you want people to know most about you?
Up on the case live & direct and always ready to bring it B'aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack.!! Iam a hippie child of a welfare mother who had me at age 17 in Las Angeles Harbor General Hospital. 'Yes' the one in the soap opera General Hospital! From catalina island @ 8 years old to Humbolt county where my mother kept me home from school to cultivate marijuana so we could pay the heating bill. I ate really strong brownies at 13, left on the kitchen table i thought were for me! Wow! Then off to Maui from 1980 to 96 during which time I was cohort-zed by my uncle Rinzai into naked tantric bag-wan rashnish hippie parties that often lasted for days at undisclosed clandestine locales. Somewhere in the midst of all that I lived with my grandfather post Laguna school seascape painter' in his barely running vw hippie bus which broke down usually with beach front parking. Or often in centipede, mosquito and scorpion infested jungle camps where the heavy rainfall would strand the VW van on an atoll along with all the creatures until the water would recede sometimes days later. Being the only Haole 'white person' in iao school I took many thumps from the natives and at a young age was introduced to some of the finer points of being a white minority in a racial situation. From that i obtained my ability to speak pigeon english very well.... which has never been of use unfortunately, except of course to amuse my friends. I began surfing at a young age and by 17 was a surf star in the Maui High surf club and surfing big waves. Graduated and left with Paulo a.k.a the brazil nut to San Francisco where we bought a car to drive to Brazil. The car broke down in newport beach and there was big trouble in Central America. So back to maui where i began plein air painting, roofing and djing full moon parties with lots of psychedelic drugs and x.t.c. One of my paintings was discovered in Lahaina and after making headlines the nude 'solitude' a gross and well...... unattractive display of the female genitalia. After that my 3rd solo show at L.A.S. Nelson d. Flack, my grandfathers former art dealer urged me to move to N.Y. where my grate grate grandfather, Brooklyn born Fredrick Mac Monnies had made himself successful. http://query.nytimes.com/mem/archive-free/pdf?res=9A06EED7133FE233A... I was able to collect various work study scholarships from the National Academy of Design and the Art Students League were I was able to be the studio 15 class monitor for Larry Poons P.M. After about four years I realized that the only way to be a successful artist is to have a decent studio. So I left N.Y. in 2000 for Maui to make money so I could one day return to N.Y. and buy an art studio. I have since the summer of 2007 been in N.Y. @ the Art Students League being monitor for the studio 15 with Larry Poons P.M. I have a permanent studio in N.J. 'the coop' and am fulfilling my destiny! :-)
Beautiful work, Edward,
I would love to see them in real space but I am in Wales UK so not much of a chance..
I think that I respond to your Art in the same way that staring into a glowing fire lets the mind wander and travel down thoughts and wishes.
all the best, Louise
