re the air brush effect... that's just comes with time. i use normal brushes... so it's just a skill i suppose. actually, the consistency of the paint is a big deal. i mix my linseed oil with 'drying media/varnish' 50/50... this helps with laying the paint down on the canvas in a way i can control it. but try your own mixes/proportions.
