Rachael Warner was born in Oregon, 1978 and was raised in a rural community off Highway 6, between Portland and the Coast. Rachael came to Brooklyn in 1996 where she attended Pratt Institute, graduating with a BFA in 2001.

Currently, I am making paintings that illustrate through concept and craft the dynamism of visual and social contradiction. As an artist, I celebrate boldness and personal strength in the face of cultural constraints. These portraits take into account notions of identity and gender as well as non-traditional family structures. By placing these concepts within culturally familiar and iconic imagery the paintings are at once, nostalgic and unconventional.

My work continues to demonstrate these concepts through a set of vibrant and contradictory visual elements. Muted and bold colors are set against each other while tightly rendered elements are played against loose expressionistic gesture. Subtle and soft textures are held within flat graphic shape and these pulsing elements spring forward against a balanced graphic composition.
