The Artist's Life: Surviving on the Fringe iin New York

I turned fifty this year, but most people guess I'm more like thirty-five. I point this out not to brag about my boyish charms, but because my youthful appearance and outlook generally attracts a relatively young circle of friends. My girlfriend is 32, for instance. Thus, being sort of bi-generational has lead me to some interesting observations about my young peers, and in turn about myself, some more lamentable than others.

C'est la vie.
I recently applied for a job as a studio painter for a very famous… Continue

The Artist's Life: Surviving on the Fringe in New York

I was walking my dogs this morning in the park near my apartment, and this middle-aged guy threw a bottle into the bushes. There was a trash can not two meters away from him, and the park was full of high school kids doing their summer volunteer work, picking up all the litter. This guy was not one of the bums that hang around the park all day (and throw their detritus all over the place, in between drunken snoozes, public defecation, fornication and drug induced rants, usually in incomprehensib… Continue
