Anagnorisis is the curatorial brainchild of artists, Samantha Levin and Danielle Ezzo created for the purposes of curating art shows and representing artists in the New York area and the east coast. We curate monthly shows at the White Rabbit lounge in New York City, exhibiting talented artists who are just breaking into the art world and looking to have their first solo shows. We also put together larger art shows that tend to veer towards the pop-surreal/lowbrow and neo-grotesque worlds, although we are not limited to those genres.

We chose to name ourselves by a term more well-known amongst drama circles. Anagnorisis refers to the moment when the hero of a Greek tragedy discovers the truth of his or her situation, whether the knowledge be good or bad. Overall, Anagnorisis means, “from ignorance to knowledge”. We feel that this term aptly describes the reaction one might have when viewing a splendid work of art – a visual anagnorisis, if you will – and applied the term to our artistic and curatorial partnership.
