Caption Gallery
Caught or Captured
Bill Sullivan and Charles Freger
Show: October 1 - November 25
Reception: October 30
The works of Bill Sullivan and Charles Fréger exemplify distinct but related approaches to the photographic portrait. Sullivan's candid images of New Yorkers and Fréger's formal portraits of native Namibians unmask identity as socially constructed, by glimpsing people at their most composed and least aware.

On view: September 25 - November 29, 2009
Wade Kavanaugh and Stephen B. Nguyen will fill the Dumbo Arts Center with their enormous site-specific installation The Experience of Green. The exhibition will emphasize the contrast between the organic and the built environment. Viewers will step out of Dumbo's stark brick-and-glass commercial district into a fantastical forest; a walk-through labyrinth of old growth trees made entirely from red kraft paper.

Giacobetti-Paul Gallery - NEW TO DUMBO
'SHOT'
The photography and paintings of Cynthia Lawson Jaramillo, Jimmy Fountain, Ji Ye Kim, Mylène Giacobetti, Simon Kahn and Christy Powers.
The Giacobetti Paul Gallery opens with a bang. On the surface, 'Shot' is an exhibition of works that were brought to life through a camera lens. Everything after that is a paradox. Photographic paintings, still motion pictures, moving still pictures, the menace of the heartland, the natural elegance of the urban landscape and the ugliness of vanity. Or, at least, the irony. There are hints of Hockney's polaroids, echoes of Cormac McCarthy, Monet with a Nikon and even a little Bill Maher. And each of the works in a brand new voice. It is a fascinating exhibition.
Opening, November 5th, 5.30 to 8.30pm.
Closing date November 29th
Regular hours, Weds thru Sun, Noon to 6pm.
111 Front Street, Gallery 220, Dumbo, Bklyn, NY.

Henry Gregg Gallery
In The Shadows
Ed Leveckis
On view: Nov 5- Nov 29
The Henry Gregg Gallery presents artist Ed Leveckis. His black & white photographs slow the city's workaday pace to expose life in the oblivious shadows of New York, sights obscured, bypassed,
ignored, somehow less than visible.

Klompching Gallery
Foreign Body
Artist: Antony Crossfield
Opening Reception: November 5: 6pm-8pm
On view:  October 29 - December 19
KLOMPCHING GALLERY is pleased to announce the first solo exhibition in the United States, of the powerful photographic artwork by British artist, Antony Crossfield. Crossfield presents the viewer with ambiguous, fluid bodies, bringing attention to the notion that self identity is unstable and permeable. The fabrication of individual male bodies into multi-limbed hybrids, makes his exploration of the male form at once unsettling, yet weirdly beautiful.

Randall Scott Gallery
New Paintings by Robert Kingston
Oct 22-Nov 21
Robert Kingston's paintings are part of his own lineage of abstraction that has evolved over some twenty years. These paintings are about painting. Kingston's work has always arisen from an earnest search for resolution in a range of gestures, movements and erasures. The appearance and meaning of the resolution has developed over years in the meandering progression of the creative process.

Myopenbar and Drambuie presents: Cinema 16
with musical guest These Are Powers

Saturday, November 21st
Doors: 7:00pm/Show: 8:00pm | FREE
During the silent film, live music enhanced the moving picture and brought communities together through a visceral, interactive audio-visual experience. Today, the film experience has been reduced to the tiny screens of our laptops and iPods, oftentimes experienced alone. Cinema 16 offers a revival of community, recreating the experience of the silent film era. Bands are commissioned to compose a musical score in order to modernize the 1920's tradition of live music accompanying films.

Horsing Around the Arrows of Time
by Eleanora Kupencow
The Dumbo Improvement District, in partnership with the New York City Department of Transportation's (DOT) Urban Art Program, installed the work of DUMBO resident and artist Eleanora Kupencow, entitled "Horsing Around the Arrows of Time," in the Pearl Street Triangle. Adjacent to the Manhattan Bridge and DOT's iron shop and fabricated out of powder-coated steel, the bold and colorful sculptures pay homage to DUMBO's manufacturing and industrial story.
